What Is Parents & Grandparents Program?

The Parents &Grandparents Program is an immigration program that allows eligible people in Canada who are permanent residents or citizens to sponsor their parents and grandparents. They can arrive in Canada and live with their sponsors as permanent residents themselves.

Who Can Sponsor Their Parents & Grandparents Under Parents & Grandparents Program?

In Order To Sponsor Your Parents Or Grandparents Under The Parents & Grandparents Program, You Must:

•    be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
•    have received an Invitation to apply;
•    be at least 18 years of age;
•    live in Canada;
•    have sufficient income to meet the needs of your parents and grandparents to be sponsored; and
•    meet all other requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.



How Much Income Is Required For Sponsoring The Parents & Grandparents?

To sponsor your parents & grandparents under the PGP program, the sponsor must meet or exceed the minimum necessary income level. This requirement is to make sure that the sponsor is financially settled and able to financially support the family members and his/her parents & grandparents to whom they wish to sponsor and bring to Canada. The minimum necessary income requirement varies, depending on the number of family members of the sponsor support in Canada, the number of family members the sponsor who wish to sponsor his/her parents & grandparents, and where he/she live (Quebec or the other Canadian provinces).

New Canada Immigration Plan For 2023-2025

Canada also has the mandate to reunite families. Canada’s Family Class Sponsorship is the second-largest permanent residence class set out by the Immigration Level Plan for 2023 – 2025, right after economic immigration. Candidates applying under the Family Class Sponsorship are nominated for Canada PR by a spouse, partner, children, or other family members.Canada will seek to welcome some 80,000 new immigrants per year under the Spouses, Partners, and Children program. Intake targets for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will rise to 28,500 in 2023, 34,000 in 2024, and 36,000 in 2025.
